Documentary Organization of Canada / l'association des Documentaristes du Canada (DOC) Petitions the Release of Maziar Bahari

The Documentary Organization of Canada / l'association des Documentaristes du Canada (DOC), joins the voices of German director Wim Wenders, and more than 60 other distinguished filmmakers and film institutes from 22 countries to petition the Iranian government for the release of our fellow documentary filmmaker Maziar Bahari. One of Iran's most well-known documentary producers and journalists, Bahari was arrested at his home in Tehran on June 21 . Although no formal charges have been filed against him, he was placed on trial last week and still remains without any legal representation. st Maziar Bahari is known as a man of great integrity and through the years his documentaries have become well known to the international community. He is especially respected for his ability to convey a balanced and intelligent portrayal of Middle Eastern life in his work. The Documentary Organization of Canada, a national association that is the collective voice of independent filmmakers across the country, organized the petition. "Mr. Bahari is a man of great skill and integrity," says Tina Hahn, DOC National Co-Chair. "He is a key support to many filmmakers visiting and working in the area, and is extremely generous in helping them." The petition was sent by courier, and copied to the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa.
